Elegant electronica is at the heart of Henry Green’s sound, and we’re stoked to hear that his new single ‘Realign’ forecasts the arrival of his second album, ‘Half-Light’.
‘Realign’ builds upon the Bristol artist’s melodic style, bringing a defiant and lush sound to his silky vocals. In the words of Green, “Realign is about self-exploration, and the idea that clarity can actually arrive in the moments when you're distanced from your thoughts, and the preconceptions of how things should be.”
The result? An intimate albeit immense piece of music, as Green’s desire to balance two styles “inspiring the production of the track.” The recording process of ‘Half Light’ found Green hole up in an attic studio for six months, trading Bristol for a sleepy Wiltshire village. Listen closely, and you can’t help but hear the introspection embedded in Green’s sound, the kind of reflection that can only come with isolation in a rainy part of the world.
Green’s entirely self-produced approach is one that, upon reflection, caused great stress when Green took it too far. “When you spend so much time on your own and have these two conflicting sides in your head, it's just a constant battle,” says Green. And then you have these sobering moments when you realise that people are actually listening to your music”
Green will be the first to tell you that ‘Half-Light’ does not capture perfection, but a transition. Be it artistically or otherwise, a transition is a concept that we all recognise and experience, a testament to Henry Green’s existential and thoughtful outlook on the world around him.
Be sure to follow Henry Green here. ‘Half-Light’ is out 12th June.
