Like any great artist, Earl Sweatshirt has evolved since you’ve first heard him. And while many fans were met with disappointment when his set consisted of little to none older work, I couldn’t help but be taken aback by Sweatshirt’s evolution.

A lot has changed in Sweatshirt’s life since his 2015 Splendour appearance, namely the loss of both his father and uncle in a matter of months. Enter Some Rap Songs, a record that is fuelled by Sweatshirt’s knack for off-kilter beats and equally as mind-bending bars. The recent follow-up EP ‘Feet of Clay’ has only solidified Sweatshirt’s status as one of hip-hop’s finest.

Hearing both releases played live only further proves Sweatshirt’s excellence. Zany and complex beats you’d struggle to hear any artist rap over were nailed by the Odd Future alumni, and the several unreleased tracks sprinkled throughout the set prove that Sweatshirt’s most formidable years are still yet to come.
