You can’t listen to Australian hip-hop right now without hearing Kwame. The Sydney rapper has seen rapid growth in the past year, culminating this weekend during the final two shows of his sold out Australian headline tour.
The triple j Unearthed Artist of the Year is set to flex his rapping prowess later this month in his three debut USA shows at SXSW, headlining the Sounds Australia BIGSOUND Brunch, appearing at the Future Classic showcase and performing at his own official showcase at the Main II.
Kwame’s recent success comes off the back of his latest single ‘CLOUDS’, a hard-hitting track that recently surpassed two million streams and found itself as the undeniable highlight of its namesake tour. It would be foolish to label Kwame as a mere overnight success, the Western Sydney artist took last year by storm through consistently strong creative output and a seemingly never ending festival touring cycle at Splendour in the Grass, BIGSOUND, The Grass is Greener, SPILT Milk, Party in the Paddock and Groovin the Moo among others.
Kwame’s rise shows no signs of stopping, landing back in Australia to play The Hills Are Alive festival at the end of March before supporting Peking Duk on their extensive national tour throughout April and May. If you thought last year was the year of Kwame, just wait until this year.
