Navigating The Diverse Laneway 2024 Lineup

It’s our fav time of the year when Laneway rolls around. Summer is nearing its end, and there’s no better send-off than Laneway’s annual affair. It’s not uncommon to first look at a Laneway lineup and be unfamiliar with some names on the poster. To be honest, that’s half the reason we love the festival. It continues to put new artists on our radar, while also bringing out a niche artist you’ve been dying to see. Here’s the cheat sheet for this year’s lineup:

Biggest Headliners Yet:

Laneway isn’t typically known as a “headliner” festival. By that we mean sometimes the headliners aren’t the biggest draw card, but instead someone a little bit further down the lineup (Fred Again last year). While the undercard is stacked like every year, the three headliners bring a new sense of direction to the festival.

It could be argued that this year’s trio of headliners are some of the biggest yet for Laneway. Stormzy has seemingly been elusive in his Aussie visits in recent years, so he naturally stands out as a huge grab for the festival. Meanwhile, both Steve Lacy and Dominic Fike are pioneering the indie/R&B space right now. It’s great to see Laneway succeeding at finding big-name headliners who also fit into the “Laneway” mould.

Dance Music Is So Back:

After the success of Fred Again’s appearance last Laneway, the festival has gone in with stacking this lineup with the forefront of electronic artists. The most anticipated on our list is Nia Archives, the 23-year-old UK producer who has taken over the scene with her revival of Jungle music. In a similar vein, local hero Skin on Skin will be using Laneway as a victory lap of sorts, with the Aussie producer tearing it up around Europe this year. Add Pretty Girl, Confidence Man, and Horsegirl to the electronic offering, and fans of the genre are feasting at Laneway.

Indie At It’s Core:

The roots of Laneway have always been in alternative rock. This year the festival reflects the unique nature of the indie scene right now. From OG’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra to newcomers Eyedress, D4VD, and Domi & JD Beck, the lineup will satisfy any fan of the genre. Our standout has to be Faye Webster, the dream-pop princess of our everyone’s TikTok feeds. Catch us front-row at her set.
