Brisbane Powerhouse Reveals 2024 ΩHM 2024 Lineup / by Jack Gobbe

Brisbane Powerhouse is thrilled to announce the highly-anticipated return of the ΩHM Festival of Other Music in 2024. Following its sensational debut earlier this year, the festival, curated by Brisbane Powerhouse Arts Program Director Brad Spolding and renowned composer Lawrence English, promises an enthralling program of cutting-edge music, boundary-pushing performances, and pioneering art.

Running from February 28 to April 20, 2024, ΩHM will present a fusion of music, performance, and movement, featuring a stellar lineup of international and Australian talent. The diverse program includes performances by Yothu Yindi, Michael Rother, Drab Majesty, Boris, as well as works by Kim Gordon, Stephanie Lake, Chunky Move, and more.

Among the highlights, Yothu Yindi, the legendary Australian First Nations collective, celebrates 30 years since their groundbreaking hits like "Treaty" and "Tribal Voice." Michael Rother, a founding member of NEU!, opens the festival with a concert commemorating 50 years of the influential German band. The lineup also includes an exclusive performance by Drab Majesty to the 1980s science fiction film, The Arrival, and a collaborative work by Franck Vigroux, Antoine Schmitt, CORIN, and Tristan Jalleh exploring collective consciousness in times of crisis.

Japanese trio Boris marks their 30th year with a performance that promises to redefine sonic landscapes, while the enigmatic cult band The Necks, hailed as "the greatest trio on Earth" by The New York Times, brings their distinctive blend of experimental jazz and avant-garde rock to the stage. Tim Hecker, a revered icon in electronic music, joins forces with Loscil and Topology for an improvisational journey.

The festival also features performances by The Veils, Lydia Lunch, Joseph Keckler, Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra, and more. Additionally, attendees can enjoy free shows from Arka Kinari, Zamrock band WITCH, The Wild, and Dots+Loops, celebrating their 10th-year anniversary with a unique blend of classical concerts, underground club gigs, and experimental art shows.

ΩHM goes beyond music, offering free visual art exhibitions by Kim Gordon, the founding member of Sonic Youth. Gordon's exhibitions, "Objective Projection" and "Proposal For A Dance," showcase a dynamic fusion of 2D works and video installations, exploring themes of surveillance, urban life, and satirizing traditional rock gestures.
